It was a sunny September afternoon 2009 when my mum phoned me and asked me if I was at work. I said “No, I’m just at home. Why? What’s up are you ok? you sound like you’ve got a sore throat”. She said, “darling my cancer has come back”. 6 weeks later my world was turned up side down and she was gone. She had just turned 58. A year later when I looked for photos of her, I realised there were hundreds of me and my little sister but hardy any of her. She hated photos of herself.

I’m sharing this with you because I want YOU to get in front of a camera, even if its a selfie on your own iphone. Make sure you are present in photos for your kids and loved ones if for no other reason… When you lose a parent or loved one, you don’t give a damn what they look like, or how many wrinkles they have or if they’ve put on a few pounds. You are loved for being you and how you make people feel, not what you look like.

Don’t forget its very important to have a professional photo of yourself as the face of your business! People want to connect with other people – not a faceless website. It doesn’t have to be a boring corporate looking photos – it can be tailored to make sure the look and feel of your profile photo matches your business. Whether you are a solicitor, accountant, interior designer, stylist, Reiki energy healer… I do not use a cookie cutter approach. You are all individuals with different needs with a different story to tell. Its important your photos reflect that.
