DRIVE YOURSELF TO SUCCESS

A couple of weeks ago I was at one of the networking groups I run and conversation turned to driving. One of the members told me that a friend of hers didn’t drive and it was causing problems in her professional as well as her personal life. The woman was a business owner but because of her fear of driving she wasn’t able to make the best use of networking opportunities in her area. She’d tried – taking public transport or relying on friends or family to give her a lift to events – but neither option was particularly reliable so eventually she’d stopped going.

We all agreed that not being able to drive could really affect your chance of success in business. Not being able to tap into networking – which many businesswomen rely on to meet potential clients and customers – is one issue. Then there are all those business meetings you need to attend. Imagine not being able to jump in your car with your sat nav and instead having to rely on other people, or the train or bus service, to get you there on time. It’s enough to get your stress levels rising.

And talking of stress, another woman admitted that, while she did drive, she wasn’t particularly confident behind the wheel.  She said that if she’d had a difficult journey – perhaps navigating a massive roundabout or dealing with diversions – she’d arrive at her destination practically a nervous wreck. And that’s obviously not the best way to make the right first impression.

It seemed our conversation had really touched a nerve. While most of us take driving for granted, for some women it can be a real block that may affect how they progress in business. It can be a real confidence zapper, too. It’s easy to feel down on yourself when you start thinking about things you can’t do, and seeing other people merrily driving here and there is a constant reminder.

The good news is you CAN get over your fear of driving. I use Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy to get to the root of the fear then help change negative thought patterns about driving into positive ones. When women come to me to tackle their fear of driving, I start with a coaching consultation to identify the impact of the problem and to define a solution that’s tailored to them. I then use Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy – a powerful combination of CBT and Hypnotherapy – which works deep into the subconscious part of the brain to instil positive messages.

Don’t worry – you don’t have to drive to an appointment as I can work with you by phone or Skype!

As someone who’s passionate about helping women to feel empowered, I’d love to use my tools and techniques to get you feeling confident behind the wheel. Don’t let your fear of driving put the brakes on your career
